In his higher nature, man is limitless. In the realm of mind, of character and of spirit there are no limitations save those which we impose upon ourselves; and no man reflects deeply without realizing that the possibilities of growth in his true and higher being are practically infinite. This thought should arouse within one a profound sense of his intrinsic worth and greatness, as well as a deep reverence for himself because of his latent possibilities.
When one is thus awakened to a sense of his limitless possibilities the great need is the knowledge of the laws that make for growth and development.
When you once get a glimpse of yourself as you were intended by your Maker to be, with all of your latent possibilities developed into realities; when you once see yourself as the superb man it is possible for you to be, nothing and no one but yourself can prevent you from attaining your ambition.
The old Greek philosopher was right when he said that the most important knowledge was the knowledge of oneself, and yet it seems as if this is the branch of knowledge in which we are most deficient. We must know ourselves, if we are to grow along the lines of power.
Success is in the student, not in the university; greatness is in the individual, not in the library; power is in the man, not in his crutches. A great man will make great opportunities, even out of the commonest situations. If a man is not superior to his education, is not larger than his crutches or his helps, if he is not greater than the means of his culture, which are but the signboards pointing the way to success, he will never reach greatness. Not learning, not culture alone, not helps and opportunities, but personal power and sterling integrity, makes a man great.
Why be afraid to demand great things of yourself? Affirm your ability to do and be, and powers which you never dreamed you possessed will leap to your assistance. "Trust thyself, Every heart vibrates to that iron string."
There is no one that can shut the door which leads to any legitimate ambition, to a larger, fuller life, but yourself. There are no obstacles, no difficulties, no power on earth, nothing but yourself that can make God's promise to man void: "Behold, I have set before you an open door which no man can shut."
